Description

Details

Thank you! For your interest in registering for the Samuel’s Memorial Walk on 22nd of January 2023. We are so encouraged that you share our vision to help sick and dying children and want to get involved in this way. We look forward to meeting you.

Hopefully you have also received our attached PDF which details the importance of this event in memory of Sam and why it means so much to us, as we are sure it will soon mean to you.

The Event Itself

As you know this takes place on Sunday 22nd January and starts at 10am on Sunday morning. We will be meeting at Box Hill shepherd's hut, KT20 7LB. It is an 8 mile circular walk round the well known and loved trail which offers spectacular views.

If you have any problems on the day, please call Yuval Arbel, our Community Fundraiser, on 07535 789555. Yuval is talking part and will be able to help you. The assembly point at 10am promptly please, is a great place to start and finish. There will be a place to park your car so that you can leave stuff behind if necessary. We advise that you come a little bit earlier if you think you’ll need some time to get ready before we set off.

Training

It is 8 miles so if you are not used to walking that distance do put in some training and some walking and including some uphill walking before the event. We recommend a good walk on each of the previous two weekends and including hill walking.

Safety

We have guides who are very familiar with the route and who will keep you safe and on track. However, you are responsible for your own safety too and the training and equipment is part of that.

Weather and equipment

The weather in January can be unpredictable but we expect it to be very cold as it is winter. Please come ready for a range of conditions.

Please pack economically for weight but also ensure you have waterproofs and warm clothing. At least three layers including the top-coat or waterproof. Carry a small rucksack.

Please wear sturdy walking shoes or boots, to help you over the terrain. You need good soles to your shoes/boots. They should also be waterproof. Walking poles are highly recommended and will make the experience a great deal easier and safer.

Food and Water. Please ensure you carry enough water – at least 2 litres. It’s a little heavy of course but the good news it that it will get lighter as you drink it. Please carry a packed lunch and some energy snacks/nuts/raisins etc. You are expending energy to do this event and will need to take some in. It’s a great and very enjoyable event! Please call us on 07535 789555 or email yuval@samuelscharity.org.uk if you have any questions.

Fundraising tips

We know you will want to raise as much money as possible.

We are enclosing/attaching some copy sponsor forms but the best and easiest way of doing this is to set up your own fundraising platform on www.Totalgiving.co.uk . Simply select the menu button top right and select fundraising. The enter either Samuels Charity or our charity registration number 1164034 and then follow the instructions on the platform to create your own page and give you your own unique URL.

You can then ask your family, friends and contacts to support your fundraising and give them the address of your page to do so. You can post it on social media and send it out to people by email.

Some supporters even have a small business card printed to give out to people with their page address and a link to the charity website for information.

You can use the sponsor form to keep track of who has said they will sponsor and also on your fundraising page.

We hope you will take raising a target of £250 minimum as part of your personal challenge for the event. That’s 15 people sponsoring £20 or 30 people sponsoring £10. Draw up a target list of the 20-30 people you think will want to sponsor you and help the children and young people we support. You will be surprised how many contacts you have in your phone, including family and friends, work colleagues and so on. Making a few phone calls personally will definitely boost your success and the level of support.

There will be a special prize for the person who raises the most!! If you need any help with fundraising ideas please contact us and we will be delighted to help.
