    Details

    MONTE PERDIDO

Standing at 3355m right in the centre of the park is the limestone summit of Monte Perdido -the third highest peak in the Pyrenees.

The highlight of the park is it’s four deep canyons carved into the limestone. The Ordesa and Pineta valleys are glacial while Añisclo and the Garganta de Escuain were formed by rivers.

The Ordesa Valley is the most famous with cliffs rising over eight hundred metres on each side and Monte Perdido perched majestically at the valley's end. The Ordesa canyon is a spectacular glacial valley, which is most famous for its awesome limestone cliffs, which tower over 1000 m above the lush beech and pine forests which carpet the narrow valley floor. These cliffs are also home to the uniquely dramatic rock cornices known as 'fajas', high altitude balconies of stone formed over millions of years. Along with them sensational walking routes of varying exposures cling, providing walkers at every turn with adrenalin fuelled views of the canyon and its many magnificent fairytale waterfalls.

    WATER ACTIVITIES

We will also have time to do rafting, canyoning or just cool off in the clear waters of the River Ara.

    HIKING

The Ordesa National Park has some of the best hiking in the Pyrenees. Its varied terrain means there are superb trails for walkers of all levels. We can not tell you a day to day agenda at this stage because it always depends on the weather conditions.

There will be 2-3 experienced hike leaders on this trip, both with extensive navigational and leading experience and trained in wilderness first aid if we need we may split a group into 2-3 smaller groups so members can choose a hike according to their fitness, mood on a day and abilities!

You can expect the shorter/medium, valley hikes toward the lake and a hut, with an accent of 350 - 500 m to be around 7-10 miles / 11-16km. We may always split into 2 groups and climb to the summit while others enjoying a longer lunch break.

The longer hike with the accent of 1000 -1400 m. to be 10-13 miles / 16-20 km plus, returning back at 6-7 pm.

This will vary according to the terrain and ascents.

Every day you may choose what you feel like doing today.
