Details
This walk follows the last 4 miles of the River Wandle Trail in south west London to the River Thames, then follows a pretty stretch of the Thames Path through Wandsworth Park to Putney. The walk finishes at a large riverside pub.
The Wandle Trail section is a mix of paths alongside a narrow river, small urban parks and open spaces (some nice, some unkempt) passing back gardens and some industrial areas. The river has an interesting industrial heritage, it has a very steep gradient, so it was channeled to drive water wheels, now the route's symbol. This section passes Earlsfield and Wandsworth, both have train stations and shopping areas.
Trampost
Colliers Wood is located towards the end of the Northern Line in Zone 3, while Putney Bridge is on the District Line.
To the south of Putney Bridge, you'll find the Putney train station with services to Waterloo. To the north is the Putney Bridge tube station, which is on the District Line.
For those driving, Colliers Wood mainly offers free parking on weekends and after 6:30 pm on weekdays. There are frequent buses from Putney to Tooting Broadway. From Tooting Broadway, you can take a single tube journey, walk around 1 km, or catch another bus.
You can take the following buses: 57, 131, 152, 200, 219, 470, 655, and N155. For more information and schedules, visit the official London transport page: tfl.gov.uk.
