Day 1: Marrakech to Imlil (1,740 m)

You will be picked up from Marrakech Airport, and then driven to the mountain village of Imlil. Here you can enjoy your welcome dinner, and take in the panoramic views of the High Atlas mountains. All food, accommodation and transfers are included on this trip.

Day 2: Hike to Refuge de Toubkal (3,207 m)

In the morning you’ll hike for 3 hours to the tiny settlement of Sidi Chamharouch. Here your cooks will serve up lunch, and you can also get fresh orange juice from one of the local stools. Afterwards you continue for another 3 hours to Refuge de Toubkal, where you’ll stay for the night.

Day 3: Summit Toubkal (4,167 m) and Return to Marrakech

You start at around 4am, with a slow and steady pace upwards. After 2-3 hours you’ll aim to reach the summit of Mt Toubkal (4,167 m) at sunrise! From here you can look down from the snowy summit, to the green Anti-Atlas mountains, and then finally the vast Sahara desert! After taking some time to enjoy the views, we’ll then head downhill for 6 hours to Imlil.

You will be taken back to Marrakech, the city centre.

  • Guides
  • Airport transfers
  • Accommodation
  • Food & purified water in Toubkal

Excluded:

  • International flights
  • Tips
  • Any visa fees (not needed for UK citizens)
  • Personal travel/rescue insurance

Do I need my flights?

Yes. There is an airport pickup from Marrakech Airport, on the first day of your trip.

For return flights, you will be dropped back at the airport on the last day of your trip. You can also be dropped in Marrakech city if you would like to stay on.

Am I fit enough?

The summit day can be 9-12 hours (with many breaks) so you do need a good level of fitness. We recommend training with jogging or sport 1-2 times a week, in the run-up to your trip.

How old do I need to be

The minimum age for this trek is 18, or 16 with a parent/guardian.

Do I need immunizations?

You can see the latest NHS advice at https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/africa/morocco

What equipment do I need?

Clothing suitable for hiking in temperatures from +25C to -10C. A detailed kit list is available on your Club Hiking in London dashboard after you've booked.

Can I explore Marrakech during my time there?

Yes! Many people choose to do this, and you can use the trip Facebook Group to arrange to meet other people from your team.

What is the accommodation like?

On the first and last nights, you'll stay in a comfortable hotel in the village of Imlil. A variety of rooms are available, but usually, you will be sharing with another person from the team. In the middle night, you'll stay in a mountain refuge which is very basic, with dormitory-style accommodation.

Is there internet available?

Wi-Fi is available in the hotels on the first and last nights. However, it can be unreliable given the remote location. There is no internet available in the mountain refuge, and the phone signal can be poor.

How many people are on the trip?

Each group is typically 12 people, with a maximum of 14.
