Details
This walk takes you to the grounds of Alexandra Palace, the Highgate Cemetery and the green areas of Hampstead Heath. But Highgate Cemetery has also a peculiar story to tell.
Alexandra Palace, the Victorian 'People's Palace' has a fantastic views south to central London.
Highgate Cemetery is divided into two parts, named the East and West cemetery. There are approximately 170,000 people buried in around 53,000 graves at Highgate Cemetery. Highgate Cemetery is notable both for some of the people buried there as well as for its de facto status as a nature reserve. It is famous because of the grave of Karl Marx.
In Hampstead Heath, Parliament Hill is an area of open parkland in the south-east corner of Hampstead Heath in north-west London. The hill, which is 98 metres (322 ft) high, is notable for its excellent views of the capital's skyline. Many famous landmarks can be seen from its summit such as Canary Wharf, the Gherkin, the Shard and St Paul's Cathedral.
The Hampstead Ponds or Highgate Ponds are three large freshwater swimming ponds — two designated single sex, and one for mixed bathing.
